Mission
Coney Island Youth Alive Inc. is dedicated and committed to not only our community in Coney Island Brooklyn, but throughout New York City. We strive for excellence in helping our youth of all ages become productive leaders in their respective communities.
Founded in 2005 derived from C.I. Youth Alive of Pitts Field Massachusetts is a drill team which plays marching band formations, competitions and other family oriented events along with other bands in other cities, schools and universities. Displaying talents of the youth who enjoy competing, being a family, and becoming productive young men and women, who will be our future leaders.
Youth alive was introduced to Coney Island by Jerome and Shirely Edgerton from Pittsfield Mass. founded in 1997.
It was created to get at-risk youth off the streets and put an instrument into their hands. Bringing back the arts enhancing their lives through drill,stepping and created a safe enviroment for many young and older children with many talents. Although Youth Alive a drill organization is based in Pittsfield Mass. it has expanded to Rhode Island.
We try to bring to light the at-risk youth in our program who enjoy stepping, drumming, and showing their true talents that we train. They take these skills and apply them when entering college, working to get them scholarships that will benefit them, their families and help them become productive citizens who will return back to their communities to be leaders and take on leadership roles. This program requires discipline and expects excellence by our youth receiving good education, through music and other forms of the arts.
We enjoy helping others especially the youth, it is our livelihood to make the youth in our community able to succeed and get the support needed to be strong men and women. Who become leaders of our programs and where the performaing arts may lead them.
